Poetry and oral traditional are the bedrock of language, artistic expression, and culture. Before there were words with which to speak, there was sound made through the body—patterns replicated with hand meeting hand and foot stomping ground—into the spiral of dance and song. The sensitive touch of poetry resonates through the pulsing world. It reaches toward the convivial invitation to listen as the deep calls to itself. To sink into the pace of poetry is to be intimately entwined with its presence.

Through the development of modern technology, scientists are now able to record the sounds of planetary bodies as they wander above. In listening to their music, we can hear each one throb in a signature wave-like vibration. The voices of planets are mirrors that reflect the music of poetry innate in each of us.

It is in the spirit of deep listening, of the poetry that lives and breathes through us, that I offer Letter from the Cosmos.
